2019 Painting Goals: Quick Paintings

One of my goals for 2019 is to paint more. I like being able fit a quick painting in at lunch or start a Saturday with a painting, without it taking 3-4 hours.

There are a few reasons behind this goal:

1. I like painting and want to be able to do it as much as possible. With a full time job, the time to paint is limited. Making quick sketches is one way to be able to make lots of paintings, in a limited amount of time.

2. In order to paint from life, you sometime have to be able to capture the subject matter quickly (before you eat the breakfast you are trying to paint or the person you are trying to capture moves).

3. I’ve always been interested in art being accessible and affordable to everyone. By spending less time making paintings, I can sell paintings for less money and still be compensated for my time.

I plan to accomplish this goal by aiming to set aside one lunch hour a week (likely Fridays) for making a painting in one hour or less. I’m also developing and expanding my tiny house paintings and trying out painting other subject matter in a small simple format.

Recently I’ve been making miniature paintings of historic homes in the Chicago area.
