Visit to Duluth
I spend the weekend in Duluth visiting my friend Michele, her husband, and her daughters ages 4 years and 6 months. It was my first time in Duluth and the visit was a delightful combiniation of experiencing the places Duluth has to offer and spending time at home with Michele and her family.
I made a painting of Michele’s front window, in the downtime between activities and meals. I love the way painting can fit into the nooks and crannies of life. Fifteen minutes that could be lost to social media, can be employed painting, with tangible result. I am trying to carry my paint supplies more and make use of fringe hours to make a painting, even if a longer chunk of time is not possible.
I got to see a number of lovely sights, during my 48 hours in Duluth. It was my first time to Lake Superior, so a visit to Brighton Beach was a particular highlight! I also enjoyed a hike at Hartley Nature Center, visit to Great Lakes Aquarium and checking out the Whole Foods Cooperative. And, I got to...
CURL! This felt momentous, because not only had I never curled before, I had never even seen live curling before. My curling knowledge was limited to watching Olympic curling on TV, so it was really fun to try my hand at it. My curling career is not likely to take off, but I am a bit jealous of Michele who curls in a Monday night league.
